SubjectThank you for covering my clients this week

Hi Tom, Thank you for stepping in on the Whitfield account with two days' noticeyou kept the renewal on track when I couldn't be there. I know that took extra time, and I wanted you to know it made a real difference. I've mentioned it to Sarah as well, since I think it deserves more than just my thanks. Thanks again, Alicia

How to use it well

  • Name the specific thing they did, not just "thanks for your help" — specificity is what makes the thanks land as genuine rather than reflexive.
  • Say what their help made possible, not just what it cost them — the outcome is what makes it worth doing again.
  • CC their manager only when you'd be comfortable saying the same thing to that manager's face; a surprise cc can read as performative.
